No More Regret!

Insecure and fragile is what I see when I look at my 17 year old self.

I had no idea what was to come—failed marriages, 6 kids, many mistakes, and lots of heartache.

(But thankfully that’s not the end of my story!)

There was a time I couldn’t look at old pictures without a sense of regret sweeping over me.

Regret is an ugly word. It tries to taunt you with:

“you should have done this!”

“why did you do that?!”

“if only you had...”

—thoughts, feelings, and emotions of relentless hounding embedded in deep disappointment.

Maybe things didn’t turn out just the way you expected, and immediately a feeling of remorse tries to take over when you think of it.

A life of Regret is exactly where the enemy hopes you’ll stay. In a world of despair over lost time and missed opportunities.

I lived there for awhile.

But finally, I got to a place in my life, like the Apostle Paul said, “I run with passion into his abundance so that I may reach the purpose for which Christ Jesus laid hold of me to make me his own. I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I FORGET ALL OF THE PAST as I fasten my heart to the future instead.”

‭‭(Philippians‬ ‭3:12-13‬ ‭TPT)

Look at it this way now: Your past is part of your story, ‬‬walking through adversity and hard times, YET coming out on the other side, has made you who you are today—restoration and comeback is your message—“look what God has done...despite my dumb mistakes!” That’s what I can say for sure!

As a child of God and believer, you should never live with an ounce of regret in your life—stop looking back, but instead, move forward with passion and purpose with no sense of loss from yesterday!

Focus on what’s ahead, and what’s to come, not on what they did to you, or how bad it’s been, or if things had been different.

Refuse to “go there” anymore with thoughts of regret—and when it tries to creep up on you, bring that thought into captivity (restrain, seize, arrest it) and make it obedient to Christ. Stop it dead in its tracks, before it has access to wander in your mind and eventually down into your heart.

Remember—Jesus paid the price, so you never have to live another day with regret!!

Love, Jerriann
