Don't Forget Who You Are!

When you get a true revelation of WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST…you will NEVER let the enemy torment you again with insecurity, fear, worthlessness, or rejection!

You are so loved by God that He sent His Son to die on the cross for you!  — that makes you righteous, worthy, and valued!

Your thought life is so important in either accepting or rejecting the lies the enemy tries to plant in your head— he can’t tell you what to think, but he can plant seeds of fear, worry, doubt, discouragement, anger, etc.,  — your the one that decides what you do with those seeds — plant them and let it grow — or reject them and throw them out!

II Corinthians 10:5 is a scripture that has become a daily part of my life — “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…”

Bringing into captivity EVERY thought…when a thought comes in your mind that does not line up with what God’s Word says about you, remind the devil OUT LOUD who you are!

I am loved!

I am forgiven!

I am chosen!

I am valued!

I am redeemed!

I am restored!

I am a winner!

I am successful!

and the list goes on and on and on!!

You are a child of the Most High! The enemy has no power over you! Stop allowing him to make you feel less than — you are more than a conqueror! Choose to think on Godly thoughts, good thoughts, positive thoughts and watch your live go in that direction!

Love, Jerriann

A Work In Progress!

FullSizeRender.jpg

We are all still a work in progress, no one has arrived! Yet, the devil will try and make you feel like “you never get it right,” or tell you, “how could you mess up so bad, you should know better by now.”

My advice to you: DON’T LISTEN TO HIM and don’t be so hard on yourself! He is the Father of lies and there is no truth in Him (Read John 8:44.) I fell into his trap for many, many years of my life - low self-esteem and insecurity controlled by thoughts, rejection and feeling less than dominated by mind.

I’ve come so far, and things that used to get to me, don’t bother me like they did - I can shake them off quicker and just keep moving, knowing all the while who’s behind it!

But there are times I’ve allowed myself to go back into that old way of thinking, then I get mad at myself for “going there” and here comes the enemy trying to make me feel bad and condemn me, for falling for his lies in the first place! It’s a vicious cycle and needs to be shut down in our thought life, before it takes over!

If you are struggling right now because you’ve gotten off your faith, made some stupid decisions, or even felt like giving up - I want to encourage you - to just get back up! Don’t beat yourself up for messing up, get forgiveness and keep right on going.

If you tripped when walking and fell, you wouldn’t just sit there and say, “Well, I fell I can’t get up now! I guess I have to stay right here forever!” No! You would get back up QUICKLY and hope no one saw you!  Well, do that in your faith walk — get back up and just keep going!  Remember His mercies are NEW EVERY MORNING! (Read Lamentations 3:23)

If you are a parent, then you know your kids disobey, get in trouble, and do wrong things from time to time, but once they repent and correct the bad behavior, you don’t keep holding it over their heads do you? Of course not! So remember, God is not a God that will remind you of all the times you got it wrong. No, He's a loving Father! He’s cheering you on! He believes in you! He loves you! He wants to lavish you with His blessings! But He can’t, if you give up and stay down…so I’m telling you to get up, don’t be so hard on yourself, know you are loved and just keep fighting the good fight of faith!  The faithful will ABOUND in blessing! Be a faithful one!

Don’t Become Distracted or Diverted…Stay In Faith!

Maybe things aren’t going as you planned this year, but I just want to encourage you today to not GIVE UP!  Faith people don’t quit and never throw in the towel!

Things happen in life and sometimes we just don’t understand, but we can’t ever get out of faith. You have to know in your heart that God is ALWAYS faithful and WILL restore all the broken pieces.

Colossians 1:23 in the Message Translation says, “You don’t walk away, but stay grounded and steady…constantly tuned into the Message, careful not to be distracted or diverted.”

That’s what the enemy wants more than anything: to get you distracted and diverted and off your faith!

When you feel like giving up —get in the Word!

When you feel like crying — praise Him!

When you feel like questioning — thank Him!

Hebrews 10:35-36 tells us not to fling away our fearless confidence, because it carries a great compensation of reward!

Your reward is coming if you stay confident in God’s faithfulness, love, and provision for you in every situation you face!

Keep your eyes on the finish line and believe in your heart that your breakthrough is coming…God never lies and always proves His Word to be true! Lift your hands right now and thank Him in advance!

What’s Holding You Back

Do you carry around with you hope and dreams of what life “could be” like?  Do you see yourself living a certain way, yet never getting close year after year? Are your days ticking by with no real satisfaction?  You know there’s more for you, but what is holding you back?

I’ve realized after living almost half a century (ouch) that there truly is a spiritual enemy named Satan, who is after the God-given potential and purpose that we have ALL been given.  He never wants you living the life that Jesus came to give - ABUNDANT (John 10:10).  The Amplified says,  “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”

Can you say that you are living and enjoying life in abundance, to the full, till it overflows?  If not, then we need to figure out why.

Are you afraid? Are you procrastinating? Are you unsure? These are just a few of the obstacles that hold us back from ever reaching the life we should be going after and experiencing.

In my study time of the Word, I’ve been looking at Ephesians 4:22-24:

“Strip yourselves of your former nature [put off and discard your old unrenewed self] which characterized your previous manner of life…And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude], And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness.”

When I’m up against a situation where I might think or act the way I have done in the past that has not brought positive results, I identify it right away and begin to thank God that I have a new nature, a new attitude and a new way of thinking.  Rather than thinking and acting the same way I always have in the past, I ask the Lord to show me how to think and act like HIM!

At times I’ve lacked confidence or have been insecure in what God has called me to do.  I see other ministers with their charisma and passionate style of ministering, and I can begin to think, “I’m not that good.  I don’t do it like so and so…” Then once I go in that direction in my thinking, I start procrastinating and the cycle begins.  So, I’ve identified it as insecurity, which in reality is fear.  I begin to get in God’s Word and find out what it says about fear, until I’ve built myself back up spiritually to face the enemy head on and continue with my purpose.

I want to encourage you to get alone with God and allow the Holy Spirit to pinpoint exactly what it is in your life that needs correcting and adjusting, so that you can identify and target your faith in the area you know you are struggling in and get back on the path headed to ABUNDANT living.

Face it head on and like Ephesians 4 says, strip yourself of that old way of thinking.  I like the way the Living Bible says it, “your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better.”

Don’t allow that old way of thinking and acting to dictate the direction your life is going to go in.  You want God’s VERY BEST for your life? So make the adjustments necessary to get there!  It’s waiting for you, but you have to do the work to ever see it!  Don’t be overwhelmed by what needs to be done, be awed by all Jesus has already done for you…just walk towards your abundant life!

What Are You Magnifying On?

So what have been your most dominate thoughts lately? Discouragement? Hopelessness? Failure? If so, then it’s time to change your mindset and focus on what your life CAN BE filled with - joy, peace, success, and love that only Jesus can provide.  The world can offer us a taste of these things, but there is nothing MORE FULFILLING than what Jesus can provide!  It’s never temporary and it’s never conditional!

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed and fixated on the giant mountain in front of you, rather than concentrating on the steps of faith it takes to climb over it.  Life is a journey of good and bad, but our attitude in the journey will determine the outcome.

I’ve learned over the course of my life that the peace Jesus offers (read John 16:33) is not something that just falls on you…it’s something you must seek and go after.  I Peter 3:11 says to search for peace and seek it eagerly.

I want to encourage you today to get a list of confessions that you can say (either written down or memorized) and speak them when you catch yourself magnifying the problem in your mind.

These are a few things I say when I notice that I’m starting to mediate on the problem:

“God is in control!”

“I will praise You in the storm.”

“You are a rewarder of those who diligently seek You.”

“I am more than a conqueror.”

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

“My steps are directed by You.”

“You came to give me abundant life.”

“You are able to do exceeding abundantly above all I could ask or think.”

You begin to speak positive faith confessions like that, and you can immediately change your attitude and emotions in a challenging situation.  Your faith will begin to kick in and you’ll stop focusing on all that’s wrong.  Instead, you’ll begin expecting and looking out for all God is working out in your behalf.

REFUSE to magnify the problems.  Never give the devil the satisfaction of thinking, He has won.  Praise God REGARDLESS of what’s going on in your life right now - confuse the enemy by your praise.  Lift your hands and just begin thanking God, right in the middle of the storm.

Focus on His goodness.

Focus on His provision.

Focus on His way of escape.

Focus on His love for you.

Focus on His favor.

And while you’re focusing on all of that, one day you’ll look up and be standing right in the middle of your manifestation, of your harvest, of your breakthrough!! Don’t you dare give up…it’s on its way!

ZAP! It’s all better now!

Life! Whew…what can I say, it brings curves, twists, and turns you never expected.  You might be walking out your journey and suddenly out of nowhere your world turns upside down - someone you dearly love passes away, you lose a job, your house is robbed…LIFE is happening every moment of every day — some good, some bad!

Thankfully those big and sudden occurrences don’t happen to us everyday, but what about your emotions?  That’s a daily battle — one minute you’re on top of the world, the next, you’re down and discouraged.  Have you ever wished that God could just ZAP the problem you’re facing and make it all better, by having it just disappear?  I know I’ve thought that many times!  But as I grow daily in my walk with Him, I have discovered that it’s all up to me…it’s my choice, my attitude, and my faith that will help get me through the storms of life.  I realize I’m being developed and strengthened in my darkest times — If I won’t give in and coward to the raging winds of life.

How very thankful I am that Jesus said He’s left me (and you) HIS peace, not the world’s peace, which are temporary fixes, but a peace that goes beyond anything I can get from a spa day or shopping spree.  Others try to forget by drinking it away or smoking it away, but there is a peace that’s far greater than you can ever comprehend —but YOU have to GO AFTER IT.  Psalm 34:14 in the Amplified says, “Seek, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue (go after) it!”  Yes, if God could just zap peace on us it would be wonderful , but it’s something we must pursue, again it goes back to being OUR choice!

The wonderful thing is, Jesus also left us the Holy Spirit to be there for us in any and every situation.  I really don’t know what I what do without His presence in my life.  John 14:26 (Amplified) says the Holy Spirit is our Comforter, our Counselor, our Helper, our Intercessor, our Advocate, our Strengthener, our Standby!  Wow!  That’s a whole LOT of power backing you up!  He’s everything You need Him to be.  He will wipe away the tears and hold you as a Comforter.  He will direct you and give you counsel in a tough place.  He will help you and encourage you.  He will standby your side and make you strong when you thought you would never make it through a situation.  He’s also going to the Father in your behalf and backing you up.  He may not Zap it all away, but He can be there every step of the way if you let Him.  I encourage you now, if you have never been filled with the Holy Spirit, just simply ask Him now to come in you.  Read John 14:26 for yourself and see what wonderful benefits you have just now acquired!

Life is not always fun and as we all know, will bring many challenges, but you don’t have to go it alone.  I say this all the time, getting in God’s Word, and listening to faith-filled messages is the ONLY way to build yourself up.  Don’t lay around moaning about life and stop stressing out with worry, instead, tap into the peace Jesus left you.  Rely on the Holy Spirit, and rest in the fact that God’s got you covered!  He may not ZAP it away, but He’s always got you covered!

“In Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence.

In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration;

but be of good cheer

[take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]!

For I have overcome the world.

[I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]”

John 16:33

Soul YOU are NOT in control!

Ever had your thoughts flying in one direction and then another?  Your full of faith and hope, then suddenly you plummet to despair, wondering how you’re going to make it through?  I’m sure we’re all guilty of this a time or two (or 3-400 hundred times!)

You think to yourself, ”What am I going to do??? No wait, that’s not faith…My God will supply all my needs according to HIS riches in glory.  I’ll never get out of debt! No that’s not right, The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want!” Back and forth, back and forth. (Please Read: Philippians 4:19, Psalm 23:1)

Your emotions are all over the place, you go from singing ”I’m so happy, oh so happy” and the next day thinking, “I just want to crawl back in my bed and be left alone.”

If you can identify with that, then you have a soul and it’s in full control!  Our soul is made up of our mind, our will, and our emotions.  Now God gave us a soul to be creative, to think, and to learn with our minds.  He gave us free will to make choices and decisions for our own lives.  And He gave us emotions to feel, to love and to express ourselves with.  But He DID NOT give us a soul to be controlled by.  But sadly, many people are. And I myself, spent decades like this until I learned the key to change…

God wants us living from our Spirit, not from a place of up and down emotions and feelings.  He wants us being led by Him.  Being led by your Spirit is letting God be in control--getting to a place when everything around you is going wrong and YET, you STILL trust God in the process…not stressed out, not overwhelmed, not crying all day long, BUT resting in His peace that everything is going to turn out okay.  And actually He's promised us BETTER than just okay!

Here’s the key...The only way you can ever get to living beyond your emotions is simply by spending time in His Word and making IT the final say in your life—even when you don’t FEEL like it!  You get your Bible out and READ IT!  The Psalms are the perfect place to start for comfort and strength.  Hebrews for faith.  Galatians for freedom.    I Corinthians for love.  The more you make Bible reading a priority, the more you crave it—I know I do!  When my children are at school and I’m home alone, I’m listening to faith building messages all day long.  When I’m driving in my car, once again, I’m listening to the Word.  It’s not to say I’m some super spiritual person and I never watch TV or listen to music.  But I know me, and if I’m not full of the Word, I will be led by—my mind, my will, and my emotions.  And I know from experience it’s never led me in the right direction.

Another key to living beyond the ups and downs of life, is praise!  When my mind wants to be completely overwhelmed with whatever challenge is front of me, I begin praising Him with my mouth!  It shuts the negative thoughts up that are trying to take over.  The louder they try to get, the louder I get thanking God for His goodness, for His love, for His grace, for His peace, for His direction and the list goes on and on.

I’m telling you it works, but you must become disciplined in your life and do it!  You can’t just veg out in front of the TV, or surf the net and tune out life—YOU must engage in spiritual warfare with the enemy who is trying to torment your mind, and fight back with building your faith up in the Word and speaking praises out of your mouth!  God has already promised WE WIN, but you must put legs to your faith!  So, I encourage you today to seek God FIRST above all else, and watch a peace come over you like never before!  Tell your soul, “You are NOT in control today…or tomorrow either!”

Don’t Listen to Them!

One of my younger sons signed up to play basketball, however, the league didn’t have enough parent volunteers to coach, so my 15 year old son stepped up to help out and coach his brother’s team.

If you’ve ever had kids in sports (especially in Texas), you know that some parents can be very aggressive and live through their kids and think they’re going to be the next Michael Jordan!  So, I was a little concerned how parents would react to a teenager coaching.  Well, one of the first practices I heard a mother say, “So, this KID is our coach.”  I just ignored it and knew that my son would prove his ability and leadership skills on the court.  In fact, they won their first game!

But I happened to mention to my daughter what the lady had said and my son overheard me telling her.  I didn’t mean for him to.  A week or so later we’re driving down the road and he says to me, “I may just be an assistant coach next year.”  I said, “Why?  You’re doing an awesome job!”  He said, “Well, because of what that lady said.”  That made me so mad at the devil!  That he would use that woman’s flippant words to try and break my son’s spirit and make him feel less than and not qualified.

Think how many times we’ve been set up by the enemy by a hurtful thing someone says to us and we fall for it.  Little stumbling blocks along the way to divert us, distract us, and hope that we never reach our full potential.  Most of the time, people are not aware of their hurting words.  Other times they are and don’t care if they wound you.  If people want to tear you down with cutting words and hateful remarks, you’re going to have to turn a deaf ear to it and mediate on what God says about you!  Don’t listen to that garbage for one second and certainly don’t let it linger in your mind.  Seize those thoughts and take them captive right away! (II Cor. 10:5)

I remember my mother telling a story of how a woman approached her and proceeded to tell her that she didn’t live what she preached and went on and on about my mom’s lack of integrity.  My mom listened to her words and allowed them to get in her heart.  She was so hurt that she stayed out of the pulpit and from preaching for quite awhile…just because of some hateful woman.  I almost watched it happen with my son, but I knew what it was…a set up.  We talked through it and refused to allow what THEY said to stop him from moving forward in his excitement to coach.

If you battle with insecurity, then the devil is going to set a trap to make sure and give you an opportunity to fall for it.  He test us in our vulnerable and weak spots.  One negative word someone speaks, can stop someone else’s destiny if they allow it to…thankfully, my son and my mother didn’t let that happen (she's back preaching)!

So, I just want to encourage you today, not to listen to THEM!  Shake it off and just keep going.  There will always be people along the way sent to get you down, but God thinks you’re amazing!  He thinks you’re a Masterpiece!  And He has a wonderful plan for you…ignore the haters and push on through to the other side, which is VICTORY!

Can’t Shut Me Up!

Have you ever been driving down the road just minding your own business and suddenly thoughts start bombarding your mind…

“You’re a failure.”

“You’ll never have enough money.”

“You’ll never make it.”

“No one cares about you.”

If you’re not careful you can begin to accept those thoughts and your mood, mindset, and actions will go in that direction.  You and ONLY YOU have the power to choose what you will think on.

What I’ve learned to do, after years of mental anguish, is when the enemy tries to plant those negative thoughts in my head…IMMEDIATELY I start saying the exact opposite of whatever is trying to get me discouraged and down.  And If I’m alone in my car or my house, I say it out loud and VERY LOUDLY, so the thoughts in my mind have to shut up!

I used to meditate on those thoughts and whatever popped in my head, I accepted as truth.  BUT NO MORE!  I start letting the devil know right away…

He’s a liar!

He’s defeated!

I’m a child of God!

I’m a success!

God supplies all my needs!

and on and on…it shuts those thoughts up right away!

The louder the thoughts get, the LOUDER I’m going to speak the Word!

You must SAY what the Word says…

Mark 11:23 says, ““Truly I tell you, if anyone SAYS to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” (NIV)

It’s time for you to start talking to your mountains.  Whatever it is that tries to get you overwhelmed, depressed, stressed out over…you start talking to it!

“Nope, you’re not going to stress me out bills, because my God shall supply all my needs!”

“Not going there stress, because the peace of God rules and reigns in my heart and mind.”

“Sickness you don’t win, because by the stripes of Jesus I am already healed!”

The devil will do anything he can to shut you up, he doesn’t want to hear you quoting the Word in times of crisis…but that’s when you need to shout it the loudest!  Let him know right now, “You can’t shut me up!”

Quote those scriptures!

Turn that praise music up!

Play that faith building message!

It reminds me of the story of blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10.  He was sitting by the roadside begging, but he heard that Jesus was nearby.  He began to shout for him, but many rebuked him and told him to be quiet.  But I love what verse 48 says, “but he shouted all the more…”  He wouldn’t be quiet, they couldn’t shut him up because he knew the Deliverer had come to town!  His freedom had come.  His relief had come.

So, I’m telling you today…the second those negative thoughts try to creep in and take over…you begin to say the opposite!  When you begin to do that, you will show the devil who’s boss.  He has no power over you and can’t control your thought life…speak the word ONLY!

You can do ALL things through Christ which strengthens you! (Phil 4:13)

Praise Him in the Storm

It’s so easy to be thankful when everything is going right and just the way you want it, but what about when the storms of life have hit…what will you do?  Cry, Complain, Cuss?  Or praise Him anyway? That’s the real test.

When you’re counting pennies for food…

When you’re believing for a job and nothing has opened up yet…

When you’re praying for your children and they’re still out of control…

Do you REALLY believe God will come through or will your faith be shaken?  The devil hopes the more pressure he puts on you, he will eventually get you to put your armor down(Ephesians 6) and forfeit the battle through discouragement, doubt, and eventually unbelief!

When you really become aware of his tactics and schemes, it will make you want to fight him even harder and win!  Thankfully you are not fighting this battle alone…it may not feel like it right now, but God IS in control!  When anxiety and fear try to bombard your mind, IMMEDIATELY lift your hands and begin thanking God right in the middle of the pressure!  You confuse the devil when you CONTINUE to praise God!  It doesn’t make sense to your mind.  Your emotions want to be in control by feeling sorry for yourself and having a pity party…you might be thinking, “I’m a good person.  I don’t deserve this.  I go to church, read my Bible, pray and tithe and yet nothing is working!”  Don’t yield to that, like I said…just begin to praise and thank Him IN ADVANCE for what is about to happen.

Let me tell you something though, you can’t just recite scriptures and declarations with no faith behind them.  Faith must be mixed with your words!  Remember it is the substance of things “hoped for” and the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1).  There is hope in your words! Faith always speaks with expectancy!

Get control of your thought life the second it wants to take you down Depression Lane…get your self back on the road headed to Victory Street…you can win!  Don’t ever quit and don’t ever give up - just praise Him in the storm!

Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. Ephesians 6:13

Fully Convinced Kind of Faith!

I think Romans 4:20-21 has become one of my favorite scriptures and quest towards a consistent and never quitting life of faith.  Let me share it with you now:

“But he did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith, giving glory to God, being fully convinced that God had the power to do what He had promised.”

Wow! I want to live like that…no doubt, unwavering, strong and empowered in faith!

Abraham got to that place in His full reliance on God and His Word.  As a child of God, that’s where we should all be living…“fully convinced!”

Often times life throws us curve balls, out of nowhere we are hit with challenges and trials that we never saw coming.  You can just be living life and minding your own business and “WHAM!” you are slammed.  It’s during those times that you really find out what you’re made of.  Is this trial going to make you or break you?  Will it stay your mess or become your message?  Will you allow yourself to become a victim or be victorious? The choice is yours and only yours!

God has given us so many promises in His Word, and it’s easy to shout “Amen!” when everything is going right, but do we still believe when everything is going wrong?  That’s the true test!

I heard Joel Osteen says, “Faith is trusting God when life doesn’t make sense.”  Your head will try to reason things out. “When? Where? How? Why?”  And your feelings will try to dictate your emotions.  But you must become strong in faith when everything around you seems to be falling apart.  You must be empowered by faith when nothing is going right.

Do you truly believe and are “fully convinced that God has the power to do what He promised?”  If so, then stop doubting and wavering, or freaking out, because nothing seems to be changing or happening in your life.  Trust God and His promises!

Now read Romans 4 like this…

“But I did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but I grew strong and empowered by faith, giving glory to God, being fully convinced that God had the power to do what He had promised [in my life.]

Amen?  Amen!

Need Watering?

I bought this Oleander plant and put it in a pot on my front porch, because apparently they don’t require much, which is good for me.  I would water it only when I noticed it, or my husband might when he walked by, but we weren’t consistent in it’s maintenance.  Fortunately, it has remained green and hasn’t died, (which is a miracle for me) because of the little bit of water it had been getting.  But recently we began to water it regularly.  In no time, I was amazed to see it shoot up, bigger and fuller, until eventually it bloomed beautiful pink flowers, which I didn’t even know it did!

It was such a clear picture for me of what our faith walk is like.  You know you can go to church on Sundays and maybe even Wednesday nights, and you will be like that that plant, you will be green, because you have a little Word in you.  But it’s when you consistently and faithfully put the Word of God in you that you begin to bloom.  You can’t exist on yesterday’s faith, it must be daily!

If you are desperate for change, desperate for results, desperate for breakthrough then you will do whatever it takes to see manifestations in your life.  So you must water you life with the Word of God!

It can be likened to working out.  You can watch fitness shows, you can pin tips on Pinterest about exercising or diets, but if you never get up and do something, you’ll never have the results you want.  There is requirement on your part and consistency is key!

Using your faith is an action term!  You must be willing to set aside time DAILY to get in God’s Word and DAILY spend time in prayer…victories will come when you do!

Consistent watering brought results…my plant grew and bloomed flowers.  Consistent time in the Word…your faith will grow and produce results.

Are you thirsty?

Blessed are they which do

hunger and thirst after righteousness:

for they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:6

GET UP!

Have you ever been laying in bed and had a negative thought pop in your head and you decided to go with it, then found yourself down in the dumps because of just one thought?  I know I have…unfortunately too many times to count!

I had this image the other day: picture yourself walking down the road of life minding your own business, and suddenly you trip and stumble.  What do you do?  Get up or just lie there?  You would quickly get up and just keep going, right?  By why is it in our journey of faith every time opposition comes from the enemy by tripping us up, we decide to stay down?!

“I quit!”

“I give up!”

“Nothing is changing!”

That’s a victory for the devil when you think and talk like that!  He threw a kink in the road and you fell for it…he’s got you right where he wants you - down and defeated!  I think how many times I laid there on life’s road until it began to rain, and eventually I was covered in mud and a complete mess!  Can you relate?   You are human, you will get discouraged from time to time, but the quicker you get up and get going again, the quicker he is defeated in your life!

I’m telling you today…to get up!  Stop laying around in defeat!  Stop feeling sorry for yourself!  Go look in the mirror if you have to and tell yourself to get up and stop lying in this mess!  You’ve got things to do, yet the devil wants you to focus on everything that’s not working at the moment…begin praising God right in the middle of it!  Speak Truth to this crisis you are in!  The Truth is what God’s Word says about the situation.

Get out of the mud or get out of the bed, clean yourself up and fight the good fight of faith!  Get your armor back on (Ephesians 6) and fight your enemy in the Spirit!  Resist the devil and he will flee! (Read James 4:7).  You are more than a conqueror!

Everyday I’m progressing in my journey, rather than lay around in the mud anymore. I’m getting quicker about putting on faith messages the moment doubt and discouragement try to flood my mind.  I WILL NOT entertain those kind of thoughts any longer and you must not either!  Have I perfected it yet, NO, but daily I say, “I will think like Jesus, I will speak like Jesus, and I will act like Jesus.”  You can do the same…use your words to defeat the devil!

You may not be seeing much progress in your life, but every inch forward is progress.  Steady, faithful steps will eventually get you to your desired results.  Lying down and quitting, gets you nowhere!

“Even when we fall, we fall only to rise again.  Acknowledging but never nursing our failures, we claim God’s gracious forgiveness and carry on, knowing that our loving God understands and perpetually reaches out to draw us to Himself.” (Philippians 3 - Epistles/Now)

Get up and carry on…

Your Flourishing Finish Is Coming!

“There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.” Philippians 1:6 MSG

I love this scripture…it brings such hope to anyone lagging in their hope!  At this very moment, everything around you might look hopeless, but if you will stay in faith and not give up…you WILL have a flourishing finish!  It’s easy to say, “I trust God” when everything is going great, but it’s a true test when everything is going wrong and you can STILL say, “I trust God!”  James 1:3 says, “The testing of your faith works patience.” The Message says, “under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors.”

I spent so many years of my life professing that God was my source, but anytime something went wrong I usually failed in my faith walk and went with my emotions…worry, fear, anger, etc.  The past 8 years I’ve been on a desperate quest to truly make Jesus the Lord of my life and trust Him completely regardless of what I see, feel, or hear.  Yes, I still have opportunities for my feelings to take over, but my faith is now fixed in God’s Word and His promises for my life.  I cannot be shaken, regardless of what the devil brings my way!  I will not get off my faith and I expect God to move in my behalf!  That’s faith talking!

I want to encourage you to dig your heels in and refuse to let the devil dictate your life anymore.  You may have given and tithed and still have seen no change in your finances, or you may have cried out to God to restore your marriage, yet things remain the same…you cannot give up!  The devil will push and push and push, but you have to push back and stand your ground…stay in faith, speak the Word, and be thankful! You can and you WILL make it! It’s just a matter of time before your flourishing finish arrives!

Keep Moving Forward!

Do you ever feel like you’re doing all you know to do yet nothing is happening in your life?  You’re praying, you’re reading your Bible, you’re speaking the Word YET life remains the same?

The devil will do everything he can to drop thoughts of discouragement and defeat in your mind with:

“This faith stuff doesn’t work!”

“Why does everything good happen to other people, but me?”

“Will things ever get better in my life?”

“Where is my breakthrough?”

If you’re not careful and begin to focus on those thoughts, then discouragement and defeat will eventually take over.  It’s so important in these times that you immediately replace those negative thoughts and speak what God’s Word says.  It reminds me of a river that has flooded…it’s raging and almost impossible to get out of harms way.  Negative thoughts can be like that raging river, they come crashing in and flood your mind, bringing destruction in your thought life and making havoc with your emotions.  NEVER jump in and go with the flow of those negative thoughts, instead stay on the bank (so to speak) and speak words of faith!

Often times when nothing is working and yet we feel we are doing all we can do, the thought of giving up creeps in.  But you know what?  Quitting is easy…anybody can quit.  It’s persevering and pushing through when everything in you wants to give up!   It’s when you see nothing changing in your life, and you can still say, “I trust God.  My faith is rooted in Him and His Word!”

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.

At just the right time

we will reap a harvest of blessing

if we don’t give up.

Galatians 6:9 NLT

The true test of faith is continuing to stand in the face of adversity when everything around you is falling apart.  Do you really believe what you say you do, or is it just “church talk?”  Talking faith at church is no challenge…the challenge is living it at home when all hell has broke loose.

I’m not saying it’s easy, but I know from first hand experience that moving forward, even if it’s just one inch at a time is better than not moving at all.  So, I encourage you today to push ahead and persevere DESPITE how you feel and how things may look…victory is up ahead if you do not faint!

Showing Jesus To A Hurting World…

The other day as I was leaving my neighborhood to pick up my 14 year old son from school, up ahead I saw a family walking down the street.  I live out in the country and it’s not very often you see people walking down the road, especially a family. “Where are they going?”  I thought to myself.  “Surely, they’re not walking all the way into town.”  I noticed the man was carrying a small plastic bag in his hand.  As I turned the corner, my eyes met with the little girl’s.  I’ll never forget that look.  I kept driving, so I wouldn’t be late to get my son.  Yet a small, gentle voice inside said, “Turn around…”  I obeyed.

It slowly began to rain, as the family continued walking, while other cars just passed them by.  I pulled up and asked them where they were going and if they needed a ride.  They said their car broke down a year ago, and they walk into town when they had to.  The man informed me that it usually takes them 3 hours to do so.  He said they needed to go to the game store and then planned to get something to eat. They readily jumped in my car and after talking to them it dawned on me, the plastic bag carried games they were trading in to have money to eat on.   It quickly began pouring rain and we were all thankful they were no longer walking.

I dropped them off at the game store and said, “Let me pick up my son, and I’ll be right back and treat you to dinner, if that’s okay?”

They said, “Are you sure?”

“Of course, I’m sure.  I’ll be right back.”

I returned with my son and purchased their food and drove them back to their home.  As they got out, I slipped some extra money in the woman’s hand.  She smiled and thanked me.

I gave the woman my number, and told her if she’s ever in a bind and needs a ride to call me.  So, a little while later I received a text from her thanking me again for my kindness to her and her family.  I let her know that God loved her and hadn’t forgotten about her.

I don’t know if I’ll ever see or hear from her again, but I know that it felt good to share the love of Jesus with someone in need.  I’m certainly not patting myself on the back (or writing this for you to pat me either), I’m just grateful that I was sensitive to that “small, gentle voice,” that I recognize and know as the Holy Spirit.

I write all of this to say, how often do we pass by others and never notice they may be in need?  How many children may be going to bed hungry in our very own neighborhoods and we have no idea?  How many people need an encouraging word, instead of being ignored?  What would just a smile do for a hurting person? Aren’t we to be the hands and feet of Jesus?  It’s one thing to tell someone, “Jesus loves you,” but it speaks volumes when we SHOW that Jesus loves.

As Christians we are to represent Christ, to be an extension of Him.  That’s what it’s all about sharing love and doing good to others.  Let’s not get so busy and caught up in our own little worlds, that we don’t take the time to look beyond and see hurting people.

“I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.”

Matthew 25:35-36 (MSG)

I Don’t Care Anymore!

Stressed out? Worried? Overwhelmed? Confused?  If any of these words describe you at this very moment, I have some great news for you…God is in control, you don’t have to figure this out on your own!

Stop carrying the load of life’s problems on your shoulders.  You have been given authority by the name of Jesus to have peace when it seems like all hell has broke loose in your life.  You can and will be victorious if you will completely trust God and His Word.  Have faith that He is working everything out behind the scenes.

Once you have gone to God and prayed about this particular thing happening in your life, now your job is to JUST BELIEVE!  Often times we say, “I’m just trusting God!”  But are we trusting God when we are still worrying?  Mark 11:23 says, “shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe…”  The real test of trust is when you can say,

“I DON’T CARE!”

That’s true freedom…worry free and care free, EVEN in the most challenging times!

When you feel like you just can’t take anymore and you’ve come to the end of your rope…don’t go there!  Instead, QUICKLY get in God’s Word and let it strengthen and energize your faith.  It will no longer just be words on a page, but words to live by!

I haven’t “arrived” yet at completely being able to not stress out over things, but day by day I see progress in my spiritual journey in living worry free.  It would never be possible for me without my daily fellowship with Him.  Don’t take your prayer time lightly, value the fact that Almighty God cares about every single detail of your life.  He hears you and He’s there for you…

“But God did listen!

He paid attention to my prayer.

Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer

or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”

(Psalm 66:19-20 NLT)

We are not like the rest of the world who have no hope and have to try and figure life out by themselves.  We have been given promises by God for victorious living and not just when we get to heaven, but down here on earth NOW!

So, I encourage you today to LET GO AND LET GOD!  Trust and believe He’s working everything out for your good!  Now go have yourself a good day…He’s got this!

Are You Fully Convinced In Faith?

Often times we quote our favorite victory scriptures and speak our declarations for the year, but have absolutely no faith behind what we are saying, they have become just words on a page.  We know God CAN do anything because He’s the Almighty, but we secretly wonder, WILL He for me?  Somewhere along the way doubt and hopelessness have snuck in.

Without faith, there is no power and expectancy in your prayers.  Faith is the key in believing you will have what you are asking God for.  Hebrews 11:1 in the Message says, “Faith is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.”  Wow, isn’t that powerful?!  Faith is what everything else is built on...hope, trust, expectancy, patience, etc.

I was reading in Romans 4 today about Abraham and how God spoke to him and told him he would be the father of many nations when at the time, he was unable to naturally have children, much less become a father to generations of children.  Here’s what stood out to me while reading this chapter:

  • Abraham hoped in faith
  • Abraham did not weaken in faith
  • Abraham did not allow unbelief or distrust to make him waiver
  • Abraham did not doubtingly question the promise of God
  • Abraham grew strong and was empowered by faith
  • Abraham gave praise and glory to God (before he ever saw the manifestation of what God told him)
  • Abraham was fully satisfied and assured that GOD WAS ABLE and mighty to keep His word and do what He had promised.

Spend time reading over these points and insert your name where Abraham’s is, ”Jerriann, hoped in faith, Jerriann did not weaken in faith...”  You get the idea!  When doubt tries to creep in and tell you “there is no way your prayers will be answered,” begin to say these confessions out loud until faith rises and grows big in your heart, eventually replacing the doubt!

Begin to thank God in advance for what He is going to do in your life...thank Him that you have all the money you need to pay your bills, thank Him that your marriage is restored, thank Him for your healing, thank Him that your children will make Godly decisions.  Thanksgiving is the highest expression of faith!  It says, “I may not see it now, but I know it’s coming and I just want go ahead, Lord, and thank you in advance!”

Remember He is a loving Father and is not the one withholding anything from you.  Satan is your enemy and the one out to rob you and take from you everything God has already promised.  He always wants you questioning and doubting God, which causes you to waiver in your faith.  Don’t fall for it!

Remain strong and convinced that GOD IS ABLE AND HE WILL...it’s just a matter of time!

I leave you with this powerful scripture from John 11:40, Jesus speaking, “Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?”

Train Wreck Prayers...

I heard Joyce Meyer say the other day that we shouldn’t only come to God when our lives have become a train wreck, but instead should stay in daily fellowship with Him.  How many times have you thrown yourself on the altar of God, so to speak, crying your eyes out, begging Him to help you in a desperate moment?  I’m sure we’ve all done it a time or two.

Yet, it’s so important to make God and your relationship with Him a vital part of your everyday life, not just in times of need.  It’s like any other relationship, it takes one on one time for it to grow in depth, in trust, in love.  Your Heavenly Father is waiting to spend time with you.  He doesn’t want to be a last minute thought in a desperate plea.  He wants to wake up with you, be with you throughout the day, and be your last thought at night.

I lie awake thinking of you,

meditating on you through the night.

Psalm 63:6 NLT

Train wreck prayers are not enough to build a lasting relationship on.  He will always be there for you and love you unconditionally, but He wants more… more of your time, more of your devotion, more of your heart.

If you are a parent then you know the feeling.  If your kids only talk to you when they need something, it makes you feel unimportant in their lives.  A phone call that says, “I’m just thinking of you” means so very much.  I’ve found in my own life, the more time I spend with God (through prayer and reading His Word), the more I desire of Him.

The greatest peace ever found is in His presence,

The most fulfilling love is found in His arms,

The greatest wisdom needed is found in His counsel.

But you will  never know this depth of peace, love, and wisdom until you seek Him FIRST (Matthew 6:33).  To seek something is to “aim at” and “strive after.”  Seeking Him is not a half-hearted attempt, it a passionate pursuit. Psalm 63:1 says, “O God, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You.”  As a result of striving after Him, He will answer your prayers in the process and give you the strength to get through any challenge you are facing.  It’s a win-win relationship for sure!

People that have been married for awhile can get relaxed and comfortable with each other, where they are no longer pursuing and “dating” their spouse.  Often times they can get sloppy in their appearance, a little nonchalant in their tone, and lax in their affection.  If not careful, the marriage can become a back-burner, when the kids, the house, and the job become more important.  Communication and connection are needed to revive the lagging marriage back to life.

Well, it’s the same with God.  Going to church once a week and reading a verse on your Bible app is just not enough.  He wants to spend time with you.  It will take discipline and commitment on your part to carve out a few minutes of your busy day for alone time with your Heavenly Father.  If it’s just 15 minutes, then that’s a great start. Uninterrupted time with no distractions (phone, kids, laundry, job)...just you and God.  Start out by thanking Him for all the good things He’s done in your life and for all the messes He’s gotten you out of.  Once you begin to spend daily time with Him, then it will just become part of your lifestyle.  You’ll get to the place, you can’t imagine not taking a few minutes to spend alone with your loving Father.

If you’ve been guilty of neglecting time with God, then make the commitment right now, no more train wreck prayers...but daily talks with God! It will be the best decision you make for your life...In His presence is FULLNESS of joy! (Psalm 16:11)

Press For It!

Yesterday I heard my dad speak an awesome message and one of the first things he said was, “Anything you’re determined to accomplish, you’ve got to press for it.”  He also said, “It takes more than just inspiration. Pressing denotes determination. You must press!”  What does it mean to press?  The Apostle Paul gives a wonderful example of this “pressing” when he says, “Having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore.” (Ephesians 6:13-14)

Pressing is the act of not giving up and taking God at His Word, regardless of how things may look in your life.  You may feel completely hopeless right now.  Your marriage may be falling apart, your finances may be a complete mess, but this is the time you DON’T GIVE UP...you press in, you stand, and you NEVER give up!

To be honest with you, there are things I’m currently facing that seem completely impossible and I have no idea how they are going to change, (can you relate?) BUT I know from experience I’m not able to make anything happen on my own.  I must rely on my faith in God and not give up. That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in...drawing on His strength, His wisdom, His peace.

The only way I know to get rid of that hopeless feeling is to stay connected to God through prayer, through worship, through reading his Word.  “Faith comes by hearing and hearing” (Romans 10:17). Once faith comes, then it gives you the fuel to continue the pressing you need to do until the thing you are praying for is answered in your life.

You’ll get to the place in your faith, where you are no longer saying, “How God, how?” Instead you are saying, “Okay, this situation may look impossible, but I refuse to give up because my God is the God of the impossible!  It’s just a matter of time before this turns around in my life!”

If you’ve been down, discouraged, and even depressed over what is happening right now, see yourself in the Spirit getting up, getting your armor on (Ephesians 6) and fighting the enemy until you win!

No longer see yourself barely getting by, instead thank God for abundance.  Rather than seeing your marriage as doomed, see you and your spouse in love with each other and God at the center.  When you have vision, it gives you the determination to press.

My dad has been the greatest example in my life of a man that has “pressing” down (Can you tell I'm a daddy's girl?!)  He just never, ever gives up when challenges have come up over the years.  Because of his resolute determination to see the blessings of God in His life, He lives in it.  Pressing is an active word.  You must do something to see change, to achieve your dreams, to reach your destiny...wishful thinking is not enough.

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in the past, I would get discouraged about a situation and just forget everything I’ve ever learned about God and His Word.  I would just accept what was happening currently in my life as the truth and the final outcome.  But, thank you Jesus, not anymore, yes, I still have opportunities to get discouraged, and like I said earlier, I’m still facing challenges, but I know, that I know, that I know my attitude in the storm has everything to do with my outcome.  When I sense myself wanting to throw a pity party of why life is so unfair, and why is this happening to me, I jerk myself up (spiritually) and say, “No, Jerri, you’re not going there!”  I turn on a faith building message and faith eventually begins to come.

If you have read to the bottom of this article, then I know that’s exactly what you are doing too, building your faith with the Word.  I promise you, the Words in your Bible are life, they are truth, and they sustain you during the darkest times, that’s why you must continue to press until you see the victory!

Let’s do this together, let’s become strong together, let’s show the devil that we’re not quitters, let’s go the next level in our faith...so when we look back on the other side of this thing, we can thankfully say, “Look what the Lord has done!”

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:14

Press on, my friend, I’m rooting for you!
