I’ve been walking 5 miles every morning in preparation for our summer vacation and swimsuit season! So, the other morning I was on my last lap and suddenly the wind really kicked up a notch. I was struggling to get that last lap in...the force of the wind was quite an effort for me to walk in. I seriously almost gave up, but I reminded myself I have a goal and I can’t quit. So, I kept pushing through, even though I felt like I was walking into a brick wall. I could see my car up ahead and I thought, “If I can just make it to my car, then I’m done!” I was so close, I couldn’t quit, but I really, really wanted to. Suddenly a great calm came and the wind was gone! Just like that, it was gone. All the effort, all the struggle, all the panting to push through was gone! I was able to finish my 5 miles!
It just reminded me of our day to day faith walk. At times we are just living life and everything is going just fine, then suddenly a huge obstacle comes out of nowhere (lose a job, car breaks down, a deal falls through, a fight with your spouse) and suddenly you feel like you are standing in front of that brick wall. You are at a stand still, no matter how hard you try, nothing seems to be working and you want to just give up and quit!
But you CAN’T! I say this often to myself, “quitting is not an option!” I used to be a quitter. When things got hard and the challenge became too great, I would surrender to the feeling of giving up and usually quit. But I don’t live like that anymore. Yes, I have challenges and struggles that come up, but I REFUSE to quit now.
The Apostle Paul said in II Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” This has to become our goal with every challenge that comes our way...fight the good fight, finish our race, and keep the faith! I don’t see the word quitting in any of that. We have to run hard to the finish line! There is great victory on the other side...push through and never give up!
