Do you ever get in a mood where you just feel deflated, no energy, and lacking motivation? Recently that happened to me and I just couldn’t seem to snap out of the funk I was in. I just wanted to be left alone, not take care of anyone (4 kids at home, 3 dogs, and my hubby), and do absolutely nothing, but lay in bed and watch crime shows and scroll Facebook all day! LOL! I know...it sounds pathetic (I was grossed by myself!) Have you ever felt that way too? Just tired and feeling zapped of life and feel like doing nothing?
So, I was out on my morning walk one day and while praying realized I needed joy restored in my life. Joy that goes beyond what is currently going on in my life...joy, that only the Holy Spirit can bring, regardless of my present circumstances!
I came home and began looking up scriptures on “joy.”
“The joy of the Lord is my strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” (Psalm 51:12)
“Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 TLB)
The list goes on and on, but the more I began to mediate and think on these scriptures a peace came over me and a joy that life can still be okay in the midst of whatever I am going through, because God is ultimately in control of my life! I was taking on the care of my life, rather than giving all my cares to Him.
Often times we get bogged down in carrying the weight of our problems ourselves and joy begins to leave our lives...worry, fear, and frustration begin to take over, eventually showing on our face in our actions (wanting to hid under the covers all day is a good clue).
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
We read it, but do we really believe it in times of need?! He’s telling us He will give us the rest we need, yet we continue to carry the load of our cares and worries around with us, until eventually it steals our joy.
If Jesus, The Greater One, is saying He will take our heavy burdens, why do we continue to carry the load?! When something difficult comes up we should be saying, “I rejoice in the Lord in the power of HIS might, because I don’t have to carry this burden!” Give it to Him and He gives the rest!
It’s all fine and good to nod our heads in agreement, but when the pressure comes and the attack from Satan, will we really do it? I challenge you today, to do it! See yourself picking up the financial pressure you are under, the marital problems you are having, the out of control kids you have, the pressure on the job, or anything else you are dealing with and handing it over to Jesus. Now picture getting in a lazy river (those kind at water parks...minus the crazy amount of kids, of course) and just floating around with your eyes closed, feeling the cool breeze gently sweep across you. You’re not paying attention to the direction you are going in, because you are just letting the Holy Spirit lead you. You are care free and worry free. Doesn’t that feel good to just relax and be worry free? The joy of the Lord is your strength and you know WITHOUT A DOUBT, that God is in control! Isn’t that a better way of living, then ALWAYS negatively taking on the care of everything that comes in your life?! So, instead of complaining, crying, moping around with no joy on your face...get in that lazy river today and float around...worry free!! The Greater One has got you covered!
P.S. You don’t even have to worry about what you look like in your swimsuit either, because only you and God can see! HA HA!
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” I Peter 5:7 (NLT)
