Every one of us go through trials and challenges in life. There’s not a person I know that is immune or exempt from them. Marriage problems, money issues, kids acting up, health challenges...the list goes on and on. There’s things I’ve battled with for years and wondered “GOD, WHEN WILL THIS BE OVER?” I don’t know why certain things take a long time to happen, but I do know that whatever I am faced with, I MUST keep my heart and attitude right, stay in faith, and keep my thoughts continually focused on Jesus! It’s the only way I know how to live a life of not giving up when everything in me wants to! I have to trust that God WILL turn EVERY situation around to my good...you must believe that too!
The people I see experiencing victory in their lives are the people that are not moved, they are steadfast, they are strong, they are unwavering, and just don’t quit despite every obstacle they are faced with!
Let’s go through those few points I mentioned above:
- Keep your heart and attitude right!
If you are angry at God because it’s taking too long for your breakthrough to come, then obviously your heart is not right. You have to settle inside that you may not understand the “whys” of everything, but regardless you will rest in knowing GOD IS IN CONTROL and it’s all going to work out. If your attitude is wrong, then your actions will go along with it. Don’t allow yourself to become bitter, angry, resentful, uptight. But stay thankful. You might be asking, “How do I stay thankful when everything is going wrong?” You focus on the good things in your life. There is plenty we can all be thankful to God for, even in the midst of our trials. Wake up everyday with a thankful heart.
Your attitude IN THE STORM makes all the difference if you’ll ever have victory in these situations you are going through. It confuses the devil when you are joyful despite what’s happening in your life!
2. Stay in faith.
Faith is simply believing in something you cannot see YET! You know the breakthrough is out there, because you already see it on the inside of you, even though you don’t see it happening in your life yet. Staying in faith is believing in a God who CAN and who WILL!
Listen to the Message translation of Hebrews 11:1, “Faith is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.” Wow, that’s it! If you don’t have faith you have nothing, but wishful thinking! You must stay in faith! How do you do that? Set aside dedicated and uninterrupted time to read your Bible, to pray or maybe listen to faith-building CDs through out the day or on your way to work! Whenever and however...you must STAY IN FAITH!
You can’t slack off for a moment, because the moment you do...fear tries to creep in, doubt starts rearing its ugly head, and eventually worry will consume your thoughts.
Stay in faith no matter what!
I have faith confessions that I speak over my life everyday. Here’s one of them: “I’m expecting good things today because the favor of God is on my life! Today could be the day for my breakthrough!” Speaking out what you are expecting to happen, causes faith to arise on the inside of you.
3. Keep your thoughts continually focused on Jesus.
The other day I was really going through a difficult situation and my mind wanted to think about all that was going wrong with “Why is this still happening?” And “How do I change it?” I was alone in my car at the time and instead of letting my thoughts take over, I put on a worship CD and the song, “Jesus, only Jesus” came on. That was my answer, all I needed was Jesus...only Jesus. When it gets too hard, just whisper His name...Jesus.
The Bible says in Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!” Listen to the Message translation, “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way.”
Look at Him, not the problems...just Him! Keep you eyes on that finish line! See yourself debt free! See your marriage restored! See your children serving Jesus! See your body healed!
I leave you with this encouraging word:
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.
At just the right time
we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
