Yesterday I heard my dad speak an awesome message and one of the first things he said was, “Anything you’re determined to accomplish, you’ve got to press for it.” He also said, “It takes more than just inspiration. Pressing denotes determination. You must press!” What does it mean to press? The Apostle Paul gives a wonderful example of this “pressing” when he says, “Having done all, to stand. Stand therefore.” (Ephesians 6:13-14)
Pressing is the act of not giving up and taking God at His Word, regardless of how things may look in your life. You may feel completely hopeless right now. Your marriage may be falling apart, your finances may be a complete mess, but this is the time you DON’T GIVE UP...you press in, you stand, and you NEVER give up!
To be honest with you, there are things I’m currently facing that seem completely impossible and I have no idea how they are going to change, (can you relate?) BUT I know from experience I’m not able to make anything happen on my own. I must rely on my faith in God and not give up. That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in...drawing on His strength, His wisdom, His peace.
The only way I know to get rid of that hopeless feeling is to stay connected to God through prayer, through worship, through reading his Word. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing” (Romans 10:17). Once faith comes, then it gives you the fuel to continue the pressing you need to do until the thing you are praying for is answered in your life.
You’ll get to the place in your faith, where you are no longer saying, “How God, how?” Instead you are saying, “Okay, this situation may look impossible, but I refuse to give up because my God is the God of the impossible! It’s just a matter of time before this turns around in my life!”
If you’ve been down, discouraged, and even depressed over what is happening right now, see yourself in the Spirit getting up, getting your armor on (Ephesians 6) and fighting the enemy until you win!
No longer see yourself barely getting by, instead thank God for abundance. Rather than seeing your marriage as doomed, see you and your spouse in love with each other and God at the center. When you have vision, it gives you the determination to press.
My dad has been the greatest example in my life of a man that has “pressing” down (Can you tell I'm a daddy's girl?!) He just never, ever gives up when challenges have come up over the years. Because of his resolute determination to see the blessings of God in His life, He lives in it. Pressing is an active word. You must do something to see change, to achieve your dreams, to reach your destiny...wishful thinking is not enough.
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in the past, I would get discouraged about a situation and just forget everything I’ve ever learned about God and His Word. I would just accept what was happening currently in my life as the truth and the final outcome. But, thank you Jesus, not anymore, yes, I still have opportunities to get discouraged, and like I said earlier, I’m still facing challenges, but I know, that I know, that I know my attitude in the storm has everything to do with my outcome. When I sense myself wanting to throw a pity party of why life is so unfair, and why is this happening to me, I jerk myself up (spiritually) and say, “No, Jerri, you’re not going there!” I turn on a faith building message and faith eventually begins to come.
If you have read to the bottom of this article, then I know that’s exactly what you are doing too, building your faith with the Word. I promise you, the Words in your Bible are life, they are truth, and they sustain you during the darkest times, that’s why you must continue to press until you see the victory!
Let’s do this together, let’s become strong together, let’s show the devil that we’re not quitters, let’s go the next level in our faith...so when we look back on the other side of this thing, we can thankfully say, “Look what the Lord has done!”
“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:14
Press on, my friend, I’m rooting for you!
